[24 Jan 2005|09:48pm]

The first game of Mafia has ended, in case anyone was paying attention wondering. I'm sad to say the game was a colossal failure in that a) the citizen participation was lacking and b) the Mafia participation was lacking. Now that we've been through a test run of the game, reneet and I are looking for your input on how to make the game, well, not suck.

Mafia is a game that requires active participation; because this is an online version, it requires you to check LiveJournal and/or your email on a pretty regular basis, especially if you're chosen as a Mafia member. It's disappointing when the Mafia don't respond to emails and thus bring the game to a halt.

One member of the community commented that the game was hard to keep interest in; does that mean we should adjust the timing of each round? Would shorter rounds (and thus, a shorter game) increase your participation? If not, what would?

For the citizens, yes, voting is haphazard; there's no way to get around that. However, that should not stop you from voting. If you've played the game in real life you know that voting can be based on anything, from an actual suspicion to just a whim. If you're a citizen, voting is your only voice in the game; if you want to win, use it.

A second game is tentatively scheduled for next Sunday (scheduled by me, I haven't run that across reneet yet), but before we try another game we'd like to hear input from everyone. The only way we can improve the game is to know what you liked and didn't like, what you think would work better and what we should get rid of, etc etc.

On another note, to keep the pool of players in future games large, we'd love to have more people join the community. Tell your friends, post in your userinfo, whatever.

Now's the time to work out the kinks in the game, so that in the future everyone can participate and have fun in mafiathegame. Please please please let us know what you think of the game as it stands, and what changes would encourage you to participate in future games.

This round, the people killed are:

who were, ironically, all killed by the mods, because your Mafia are slacking. Lots.

Actually, I don't know if that's really irony, or just Alanis Morisette irony, but whatever. Civilians, this is your last chance to take a stab at the mafia. Make it count.

mod post [15 Jan 2005|09:18pm]

Allright, allstars. Sorry about the delay. stoichiometry will be away for a while, and I was at debate this weekend, so this post is a little late.

The civilians have convicted drivers_seat, who was a civilian.

Mafia: You have until Monday at twelve midnight (pacific time) to email mafiagame@gmail.com with your next civilian to kill.

This round, the Mafia have killed:

and transference_ and silkencages were randomly killed by mods because two of the Mafia never responded.

Come on Mafia, where are you guys? Please make sure you don't have mafiagame @ gmail . com filtered to your junk email. reneet and I don't want to be the bad guys randomly killing people in the game. That's your job ;)

Citizens: Cast your vote as to who you think a Mafia member might be, using this post for who's still in the game, and we'll announce who was convicted tomorrow on Friday.

Game One, Round Two. [08 Jan 2005|01:01pm]

With the most votes (which was uh... two) sara567 has been killed by her fellow citizens. That's right, she was not in the Mafia.

Mafia, you have until Monday night to choose your next four victims! Please refer to this post for a list of those still alive in the game, and email mafiagame @ gmail . com with your decisions.

Voting [07 Jan 2005|04:24pm]

Just a reminder to cast your vote for who you think is the Mafia, at this post. Voting ends today!

Clarifications. [06 Jan 2005|10:44pm]

Just to clear up possible confusion:

When Game One started, there were less than twenty people in the community, and so everybody was in by default. Since then, however, more people have joined the community. Here is the list of everyone involved in this game:

animorphz Killed by Mafia.
let_me_be Killed by Mafia.
mrgodot Killed randomly by mods.
sara567 Killed by civilians.
silkencages Killed randomly by mods.
siukong Killed by Mafia.
transference_ Killed randomly by mods.
xsecretstarx Killed by Mafia.
youshotmedown Killed by Mafia.

Also, we realize that who civilians accuse of being Mafia is random. If you have ever played the original game with cards, voting is also somewhat haphazard. Remember, this is all in fun, so don't take it personally if someone "votes you off," as it were.

Please make any responses and votes to the previous post, and please keep making suggestions. We're trying to evolve this game to make as much sense and be as much fun as possible, after all!

ETA: Remember, the person with the most votes toward them will be voted off; if there is a tie between members there will be a second vote to see which of them will be removed. Also, if you are dead you cannot vote. Mafia members vote, under the guise of being civilians.

mod post [06 Jan 2005|09:45pm]

Sorry for the ridiculously late update. Work's a bitch.

The mafia have killed:
mrgodot (killed by mods because fourth mafia member never responded).

Citizens: Please use this post as a discussion forum of sorts. Cast your vote as to who you think a mafia member might be (1 vote, please), and we'll announce who was convicted tomorrow.

Game One [02 Jan 2005|11:27am]

All right, guys and dolls. At this point we have 18-19 people in, so we're going to go ahead and try a game. If you've already commented with your email address, you're in. If not, comment to this entry please, so that musicalrentreneet and I can email four of you to be Mafia. Make sure you have your filters set up to accept mail from mafiagame @ gmail . com. Thanks!

Please please please help us out with getting more people in the community, by promoting in your userinfo or to your friends list.

mod/game notice [22 Dec 2004|10:18pm]
To keep everyone updated, the first game of Mafia will most likely start on January 2.

Benj will be in Kansas on the 26th, and because it's the day after Christmas, many of the rest of us will be away from computers as well. It's probably the easiest that way.

On a closing note, tell all your friends about mafiathegame! We need many members, because each game calls for twenty, and we'd like a nice rotation! Besides, everyone loves mafia, know what I mean?
